Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,.
This weekend we arrive at the half way point for Great Lent. I hope the first half was fruitful for everyone, but if it wasn't for whatever reason, its not too late to start now.
One habit that you can start to develop is that of using what the Fathers call arrow prayers. Those are short prayers directed at a particular problem of passion, which can be prayed as often as you wish. An example would be "Lord, enlighten my darkness!" Another is a bit longer, but also powerful:
"From my youth, many passions have fought against me. But do Thou help me and save me, O my Savior!"
1. This weekend and the coming week: Tonight we will begin with Pre-Sanctified Liturgy at 6:30, followed by our Lenten meal and book discussion. On Saturday morning, at 9:30 a.m., we will serve Divine Liturgy for the reposed, followed at 6:00 p.m. by Great Vespers.
This Sunday is the Sunday of the Veneration of the Cross, a particularly beautiful occasion. Divine Liturgy will be at 10:00 a.m.
Next week, we will serve Pre-sanctified Liturgy on Wednesday and Friday nights at 6:30 p.m.
2. We need volunteers to provide the soup and bread for the upcoming three Friday nights, for the Lenten meal we share following Pre-Sanctified Liturgy. The dates will be April 5, April 12 and April 19. Please let me know if you can help.
3. We are collecting items to be donated to a shelter for women. You can find a list of the items we are looking for on the bulletin board in the coffee hour room. Please try to have all donations in the church no later than April 14.
I hope to see everyone this weekend!
